UPCOMING VETERANS EVENTS:

The Jackson County Veterans Office would like to annouce the upcoming Veterans events for this year. If you are a county employee who is a Veteran or you have family members who are Veterans we would like to invite you to take part in these wonderful events to honor and recognize our Veterans who served their country and Jackson County.

The Veterans Annual Picnic at the National Guard Armory in Sylva on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Free to all Veterans and we ask for $5.00 donations for all non-veterans. Menu is BBQ, Chicken, baked beans, desserts, and all the fixins.

The Smoky Mountain Veterans Stand Down is Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Macon County Community Services Building, 1288 Georgia Road, in Franklin, N.C. from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We will have the dental, vision, and audiology bus on site. Free breakfast and lunch will be served. VA Clinic and VA hospital representatives will be on site. Lots of freebies and vendors and free gear!

The Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 in the Heritage Room Dining Hall at the Jackson County Senior Center. Dinner starts at 4:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. All Veterans and two guests eat free and are served their meal. Raffles and entertainment will be included. *YOU MUST HAVE RESERVATIONS*.

The third Annual Veterans Day Parade will be on Saturday, November 4, 2017 in downtown Sylva. We will leave Mark Watson Park and turn at Mill N Main and end at Mark Watson Park. The American Legion will be open for refreshments and facilities. Please let us know if you would like to have an entry (marching band, motorcycle group, truck, car, float, etc.) entries need to be turned in by October 31, 2017. The parade will begin at 3:00 p.m.

The Jackson County Veterans Office, along with the Jackson County Senior Center, would like to thank all of our Veterans of Jackson County and surrounding counties and their families for their dedication, honor, and sacrafice to our country and to know that this is a special time of year to say thank you and welcome home!
