UPCOMING VETERANS EVENTS

The Jackson County Veterans Office would like to annouce the upcoming Veterans events for this year. If you are a county employee who is a Veteran or you have family members who are Veterans we would like to invite you to take part in these wonderful events to honor and recognize our Veterans who served their country and Jackson County.

The Smoky Mountain Veterans Stand Down that covers the Western Counties including Jackson County will take place on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Robert C. Carpenter Community Building in Franklin, NC. There will be lots of vendors, military gear, and breakfast and lunch will be served.The dental and vision buses will be on site, as well as hair stylists, VAMC Asheville, Franklin CBOC, and much more.

The Annual Veterans Picnic will take place at the Southwestern Community College Burrell Building on October 27, 2018 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Veterans eat free and guests are $5.00.

The Annual Veterans Day Parade is on Sunday, November 11, 2018 in Downtown Sylva from 3:30 pm until. If anyone would like to participate (ride, walk, march, or have a float or vehicle, etc.) please contact our office to sign up.

The Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 in the Heritage room at the Department on Aging from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Veterans and a guest eat for free and *YOU MUST HAVE A RESERVATION*. There will be formal dinner server, but you may come as you are. NO dress code required. We will have entertainment and a raffle.

10th year celebration for the Franklin Community Based Outpatient Clinic located in Franklin, NC will be on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. Several vendors will be there that day as well as local Veteran Service Officer. It will take place between 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm.

The Jackson County Veterans Office, along with the Jackson County Senior Center, would like to thank all of our Veterans of Jackson County and surrounding counties and their families for their dedication, honor, and sacrafice to our country and to know that this is a special time of year to say thank you and welcome home!
